NVIDIA, the American technology giant renowned for its leadership in AI and graphics processing, has announced its acquisition of VinBrain, a start-up under Vingroup specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for the medical sector.

The deal, disclosed by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, follows the company’s recent agreement with the Vietnamese Government to establish two AI research and data centres in Vietnam, signed on December 5. Huang expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating that NVIDIA is "very lucky" to partner with Vingroup and VinBrain. He outlined ambitious plans to develop VinBrain into a leading AI design centre in Vietnam.
While the financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed, the move is expected to bolster NVIDIA’s footprint in the rapidly evolving AI sector in Vietnam.
VinBrain, an affiliate of Vingroup, has earned recognition for its AI-driven medical tools, which are deployed in 182 hospitals across Vietnam, the US, India, Australia, and other countries. These technologies aim to improve the efficiency of medical professionals and enhance healthcare outcomes globally.
According to Vingroup’s mid-2023 financial report, the conglomerate owned 49.74% of VinBrain’s shares, having invested VNĐ126.6 billion (nearly US$5 million) into the start-up.
NVIDIA’s partnership with the Ministry of Planning and Investment will see the construction of the Vietnam Research and Development Centre and AI Data Centre. These initiatives are expected to elevate Vietnam’s technological capabilities, fostering innovation and enabling the country to emerge as a regional AI hub.
The acquisition of VinBrain underscores NVIDIA’s commitment to leveraging local expertise and driving AI advancements in healthcare and beyond.
